Edmonton Public Library – Director, Facilities and Operations

Within the framework of EPL’s strategic goals and business plan, the Director, Facilities and Operations (“Director”) provides direction and leadership for the repair, maintenance, planning, design, construction, and operations of the Library’s physical facilities managing a $4.5 million annual operating and $84.5 million building capital budget.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) the Director will provide effective leadership, direction, coordination and supervision in the delivery of a broad range of facility and building operational services. These services will be delivered in an efficient and effective manner with the ultimate goal of ensuring value for the public.

The Director will be responsible for maintenance, providing oversight of all capital building projects under the facility’s portfolio including the $84.3 million Milner building project. This position will work closely on a day-to-day basis with the City of Edmonton Integrated Infrastructure Services Project Officers once construction is underway.

This position will provide support to the Chief Financial Officer and Branch Services Directors in assessing options for Branch Site Development, Security, Occupational Health and Safety /Emergency Preparedness and overall guidance to implement, maintain and enhance EPL’s OHS management system, Custodial Services and Fleet Services.

The Director directs the activities of the Facilities and Operations Division and provides oversight of staff resources, including performance management and staff development. They will oversee workflow and physical facilities within established policies and procedures, the Collective Agreement and EPL’s annual budget. While providing leadership, coaching and direction to ensure tasks are executed within their approved cost, schedule and technical baselines, the Director will create performance measures for the department.
