The First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC) is an independent, apolitical, and technical non-profit organization operating with a special mandate from the Assembly of First Nations’ Chiefs-in-Assembly (Resolution #48, December 2009). FNIGC became an independent, incorporated non-profit entity on April 22, 2010, with its history tracing back to 1996. The Assembly of First Nations formed a National Steering Committee to design a new national First Nations health survey in response to a decision from the Federal Government to exclude First Nations people living on reserve from three major population surveys.
Reporting to the Board of Directors (Board) on operational matters and working closely with the Board in an ex-officio capacity on governance matters, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable for leading the development and execution of strategic plans to achieve the vision, mission, and core strategic objectives of the First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC).
