Mount Royal University – Chief Information Officer

ID# 22-1491      Location:  Calgary, Alberta

The Chief Information Officer is responsible for developing a vision for how technology will enhance the teaching and learning environment that builds on the University’s reputation as a center for undergraduate teaching and research.

Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a key member of the University’s Leadership Team. The CIO takes an enterprise-wide perspective to see opportunities across departments, faculties, and businesses and, as such, plays an important role in building and leading a motivated team of technology professionals to provide exceptional IT service and solutions to the institution.

Key to the success of this role will be the CIO’s ability to develop collaborative relationships while partnering closely with multiple stakeholders within a complex post-secondary environment. The CIO will actively engage University leadership and cross-divisional teams to define and implement institutional strategies for IT systems functionality designed to support achievement of organization’s goals and to ensure reliable IT infrastructure and services.

An active listener and seasoned communicator, the CIO will take the time to be visible, seeking to understand the workings of the university community, the diverse needs of the stakeholders (including the IT team) and strategically aligning expectations with the prioritization and delivery of services and solutions. The CIO also acts as a conduit to convey how the work of their team connects to the overall needs of the university community. In light of resource and budget constraints, the CIO maintains a positive can-do attitude and is creative in delivering innovative solutions that offer the greatest potential for technology to stoke excellence in teaching and research in alignment to MRU’s academic mission.
