Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Services the Director, Employee Relations provides strategic leadership and expert advice to County management and employees in the areas of human resources, learning and organizational development, and health and safety to enhance the operations of the County and the employee experience. The Director plays a key role in implementing the Employee Relations mandate and associated action plan in tandem with supporting County management’s accountability for human resource management under health and safety and labour legislation and County policies. This agenda requires a balance of leadership vision and operational management strength.
The Director will lead the Employee Relations team and County management through change processes, which will involve shifting culture, re-engineering processes, developing existing talent, and leveraging new technology. This calls for an experienced and well-rounded professional who is both strategic and operational. The successful candidate will possess a talent management philosophy with demonstrated expertise navigating the complexities of employee and labour relations.
The Director will represent the department and RVC with many stakeholder groups. Thus, the candidate must have the ability to build and maintain trusting relationships across all levels and interests. Highly collaborative and consultative, the incumbent will remain calm under pressure, and will have the ability to effectively facilitate, mediate and negotiate.
