Total Rewards at the University of Calgary supports the attraction, motivation, and retention of staff. Key elements include compensation, group benefits, pensions and retirement programs, and employee recognition. The Total Rewards department strategizes, designs, delivers, and evaluates programs, which align with organizational needs and support a competitive market position. The primary function of this team is to provide structure, processes, and programs in the areas of pensions, benefits, compensation analysis including benchmarking in the marketplace and recognition.
The Director, Total Rewards plays a key leadership role in Human Resources, reporting directly to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources with overall responsibility for leading the 10-person Total Rewards team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of compensation programs, including, pension and benefits and recognition programs. Reporting to the Director are the Manager, Compensation and Recognition and the Manager, Group Benefits and Retirement Programs.
This position will be the internal content specialist for UCalgary for programs, policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to total compensation, employee benefit plans and pension plans. This position will provide leadership in the development, implementation, communication, and administration of total rewards strategies and supporting programs that enable the organization to attract, retain and motivate top talent.
The Director, Total Rewards is responsible for providing strategic leadership to ensure that the support provided by the Total Rewards team is effective, adds value to the organization, and aligns with the strategic direction of the HR function, the institution and the respective faculties and units within. This position is responsible for providing leadership and counsel to the University community in all the key elements of Total Rewards and works closely with organizational leaders, external third-party consultants and providers and internal HR Centers of Expertise.
