About the Opportunity
ID: 26-1250 Location: Yellowknife, or Fort Smith, or Inuvik, NWT
The Dean, School of Education, Science and Business (“Dean, ESB”) is responsible for the academic leadership
and collaborative approaches to management of the ESB School, with particular emphasis on maintaining
academic excellence and integrity. As part of the Academic & Research Division, ESB delivers quality post-
secondary programs while meeting the needs of all students and serve communities throughout the North.
The Dean, ESB reports directly to the Provost and Vice President Academic and Research (“VPAR”), and leads a
team of 35+ faculty and administrative staff, and a $7M budget. They provide strategic leadership for the ESB
and hold accountability for all academic and administrative matters pertaining to the associated programs.
The Dean oversees all education, science, business, and adult upgrading programs, college-wide, throughout
the NWT. Programs often involve partnering with southern universities; the Dean assists in building
partnerships within Aurora and with other institutions to produce successful learners qualified to go on to
further post-secondary programs or seek meaningful employment.
The Dean fosters a positive environment that supports the mission, values, and policies of Aurora College; is
consistent with adult education principles; and is respectful of the many cultures of the peoples and
communities of the NWT. There is tremendous excitement in the North in the wake of a range of federal
funding commitments; the opportunities to grow programming to meet territorial needs during a generational
investment in the NWT creates a critical and exciting time and space for the Dean; the College is galvanizing a
team which will work collaboratively and efficiently to build a system that supports faculty developing research
programs, championing scholarship of teaching and learning, and the leading change management that
comes from moving Aurora from a government-based college to a dynamic and responsive university.
ESB has significant impact on the delivery of credible programming to maintain transfer agreements and
partnerships; the availability of qualified professionals; the confidence of employers in the field to hire the
School’s graduates and the health and well-being of all residents and communities of the NWT whole.
